Are you eligible for boiler grants?

A replacement boiler is a superb investment for any home as it’ll instantly reduce your energy bills and ensure you won’t need to worry about a breakdown anytime soon. Boiler technology has advanced so much in recent years and there’s fantastic innovative technology to take advantage of.

Unfortunately our winters seem to be getting colder every year so what you don’t want is the boiler to go bang when you need it most. If you have an older boiler then you probably have a water tank in the loft or airing cupboard and now’s the time to upgrade.

The good news is that there are boiler grants that you may be eligible for, helping you to save a little money on your own installation. In fact, the Government has regulations in place where your energy supplier needs to provide funding to help improve your home energy efficiency.

These suppliers include: Atlantic, British Gas, EDF, Eon, Scottish Hydro, Scottish Power, SSE, Southern Electric and Utility Warehouse.

Am I eligible?

If you’re keen to receive funding for your replacement boiler then you’ll need to meet eligibility criteria. This includes:

  • Be in receipt of Pension Credit.
  • Be in receipt of Child Tax Credit or Working Tax Credit
  • Be in receipt of some kind of Income Support, Employment Support Allowance or income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance.

Of course, this doesn’t cover everyone, so what should you do if the above doesn’t apply? Fortunately there are a range of other options.

The Green Deal

Boilers are covered under the Government’s Green Deal, which is in effect a loan. You can receive up to £10,000 to improve the energy efficiency of your home and then you make paybacks with the money saved on bills.

Scottish boiler grants

The boiler scrappage scheme in Scotland has been replaced with the Scottish Green Homes Cashback Scheme. With this scheme you can receive £400 off of the cost of a replacement boiler. First you’ll need a Green Deal Assessment and you’ll then receive a voucher. You’ll need to install the new boiler within 12 weeks.

Energy Supplier Grants

Under the Carbon Emission Reduction Targets (CERT), it’s a legal requirement for energy suppliers to help make properties energy efficient. As part of this scheme there are grants for replacement boilers. You can get these grants from any supplier and not necessary just the one you’re signed up to.
