Government free ECO Boiler Scheme

Energy prices are continuing to rise in the UK, pushing up people’s expenses and tipping many into fuel poverty. As such many properties are left cold in the winter, or homeowners are left paying a fortune to keep warm. This doesn’t have to be the case though and by replacing your boiler you could save up to £300 a year on bills, according to the Energy Saving Trust.

But this can be expensive you say. Perhaps you simply don’t have the funds available to pay out for a replacement boiler. Well now there’s an opportunity to avoid this expense because of a Government scheme designed specifically to help those on low incomes. This is a chance to slash your energy bills with a new condensing boiler, at no cost.

How much will this save?

Heat accounts for a large percentage of your annual energy bills, which is why a new boiler can be so effective at countering high gas and electricity prices. Experts suggest that boilers contribute to between 55% and 60% of your yearly fuel bill, so an inefficient system will be throwing away hundreds of pounds annually.

For most homeowners, replacing a boiler can be costly, ranging anywhere from £1,000 to £2,500 depending on efficiencies, the manufacturer and the installer. On top of this there’s the worry about hiring a reputable Gas Safe engineer to complete the installation. With the free grants now available there’s never been a better opportunity to slash bills and save on an installation.

Am I eligible for the replacement boiler grants?

Anyone looking to have a replacement boiler installed can apply to the scheme and they’ll then be individually assessed for eligibility. Applicants will hear back within two days, notifying them on whether they’ve been approved onto the scheme or not.

If the qualifying criteria are met by applicants, there will be an appointment made for your boiler to be inspected by an energy assessor. For those with a boiler operating at 79% efficiency or less you’ll be entitled to the most efficient A-rated replacement boiler and is over 10 years old. This will help to cut bills the most and keep homes even warmer throughout the year.

The replacement boiler scheme is specifically targeted towards those meeting one of the following criteria:

  • Child tax credit and income of less than £15,860
  • Working tax credit and income of less than £15,860
  • Income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)
  • Pension Credit
  • Income support
  • Income based job seekers allowance

Why are replacement boiler grants being offered?

The ECO boiler scheme has been heavily funded by the Government to specifically help those on low incomes. In fact, £875m has been invested thus far in an attempt to aid low-earning homeowners reduce their expenses and to help the environment with cleaner, more efficient central heating boilers.

It may sound too good to be true but with this ECO scheme you won’t pay a penny and instead can save a wealth of money whilst experiencing a more comfortable home in the process.
